What is an electric cooperative?

An electric cooperative is a special kind of company that brings power to homes, farms, and businesses. Here in Missouri, our electric cooperatives are a bit different from other power companies because they’re owned by the people they serve—like families, farmers, and business owners! That means that everyone who gets electricity from the cooperative is called a member and actually owns a little piece of it.

Each cooperative is run by a group of people called a board of directors. They’re chosen by the members to help make decisions and keep things running smoothly. In Missouri, there are 40 of these cooperatives working together to make sure everyone has the electricity they need! Watch the video below to learn more!
