Scholarships
Tipton, MO. (July 8, 2010) — Co-Mo Electric Cooperative awarded 31 scholarships this month through the Co-Mo Cares Trust’s Operation Round Up program.
The $31,000 in scholarships this year brings the total amount of college scholarship money awarded since the program began in 1997 to more than $344,000. That total is included in the more than $1 million given in support of education, social service organizations and individuals in need through the Operation Round Up program, which increases participating members’ electric bills each month to the next full dollar. The extra change goes into the trust managed by a nine-member board of trustees.
“Part of being a cooperative means having a genuine concern for a community. The generosity of our members through programs such as Operation Round Up allows us to do that and make a difference in the lives of some young people in our area,” said Ruth Ann Warnke, Co-Mo executive secretary and coordinator of the Co-Mo Cares Board of Trustees.
To be eligible, students must have their permanent residence within Co-Mo’s service territory, though they do not have to receive electric service from the cooperative. Students must plan on attending an accredited technical or academic school. First-time recipients are required to attend a financial seminar July 31 at Co-Mo’s office in Tipton.
